Artists have been inspired by the vast beauty of Alberta since the beginning of our time here, and I am no exception. The country roads take my breath away. The vibrant colours stop me in my tracks. The range of landscapes from the wide-open prairies to the jagged Rocky Mountains and the combination of both as one drives through the foothills is a sight never to be forgotten.
One can argue who said it best in their songs titled “Alberta Bound,” whether it’s Paul Brandt with his true-to-home lyrics of “This piece of heaven that I’ve found, Rocky Mountains and black fertile ground, everything I need beneath that big blue sky,” Gordon Lightfoot’s serenade to “The Chinook wind is a-movin’ in, tomorrow night I’ll be Alberta bound,” or Bryan Adam’s tribute to Alberta with “It’s been so long that I’d almost forgotten, you’re the prettiest thing I’ve seen,” each of these songs brings a flood of imagery and emotions to me that speak so clearly to being “Alberta Bound.”
This piece brings together several of my favourite views of Alberta; The mountain vista from my home in Cochrane, the long open roads in the Diamond Valley area, and the dynamic, beautiful open Alberta skies seen throughout our province.
My wish to you is that this painting will take you there, and that you will truly feel “Alberta Bound.”
